“In My Living Room” Premiering at ReelHeART!

Chicago, IL – May 28, 2009 “In My Living Room”, a short documentary by multi-Joseph Jefferson award winning director Harriet Spizziri, makes its Canadian premiere as part of the ReelHeART International Film Festival (RHIFF), June 22-27, 2009.

Harriet Spizziri, a theater director by trade, having directed 40 plays in Chicago, has forayed into film with her directorial debut, In My Living Room, a documentary about Patrick Toal, a gunnery soldier in 1968 Vietnam,. Now Toal, a Federal Administrative Law Judge, reveals for the first time, stories of his service. “Stories poured out of him as we looked at each other hour after hour in my living room. I couldn’t believe it; I was looking at a man’s soul, his pain, his courage and insight about the war.” quote, Ms. Spizziri. “One never knows when one reveals one’s self to the world.”

A mix of real life photographs from Patrick Toal’s service in Vietnam, juxtaposed with artwork from the National Vietnam Veterans’ Art Museum (NVVAM) by other Vietnam War survivors along with original unseen footage of the 1968 Democratic Convention riots in Chicago was the genesis of this short film.

“Harriet, you didn’t just make a documentary, you have made a piece of art!” comments, Eric Simonson, 2006 Academy Award Winner - Short Documentary for: A Note of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin, which premiered at ReelHeART in 2006.

In My Living Room will premiere on Wednesday June 24th , 9:15 PM, Innis Town Hall, Innis College, 2 Sussex Avenue, Toronto, M5S 1J5, 1 Block South from St. George Subway.
